About us

Brisbane duo, Elaine and Ste Brophy A.K.A. Sounds of Soul Brisbane play various themed events along with occasional guests . The two main event nights are "One Night Beyond" which is Ska and Reggae or "Soul Groove" a mix of Northern Soul, 60's R&B, Funk, Jazz and more all on original 7” vinyl. We also have Motown, Disco and Funk events. We are passionate about music and have collected vinyl for many years, crate digging all over the world to find gems to play. One style we play is Northern Soul which is a youth culture which changed a generation. It was originally a nightclub based movement which developed in Northern England from the late 1960's from the British Mod scene based on a particular style of black American soul music with a heavy beat and fast tempo. It is also associated with particular dance styles and fashions that grew out of the underground rhythm and soul scene of the late 1960s. This music is fantastic to dance to. We play at various venues in Brisbane, Redcliffe and the Sunshine Coast. We have been guest DJs in New York in 2025 and the UK in 2022.
